Where it all started
Well, it all started with a small pepper and herb garden that got out of control. It was June of 2001 in Rincon Puerto Rico, my backyard pepper and herb garden was reaping the benefits from the flat surf and rainy weather. I would harvest the peppers and herbs and take them to the test kitchen to experiment with flavor combinations. After several attempts to create a hot sauce that would complement food rather than destroy it I found the secret mix.
Rincon Heat Gourmet Hot Sauce is a balanced sauce on the milder side of the Habanero pepper, but it’s still plenty hot. Rincon literally means “corner” or “niche” in Spanish and is the name for a small surfing tourist Mecca on the western corner of Puerto Rico which attracts surfers from all over the world. Rincon heat gets its unique flavor from a layered lemon grass, basil and garlic combination.
Other than the flavor, the good thing about this sauce is that 1% of Rincon Heat sales to go the Surfrider Foundation through the 1% for the planet foundation! After watching Surfrider save one of my favorite surfing spots in Puerto Rico (Tres Palmas) and the ongoing fight they have with offshore drilling and dredging in Florida it was only natural to give something back. 1% of total sales go to 1% for the Planet and the Surfrider foundation to help their mission.
